Our Family

We are Akos and Bernard, stewards of re.Planted Farm, along with our two children, who are learning to love the land through us.

At re.Planted Farm we’re re-aligning with nature by building networks that more completely sustain our community’s needs. We believe that local networks are stronger, local food is healthier, and local flowers are more sustainable

We currently cultivate flowers and produce on just under 2200 sq ft (and ever-increasing) with the future hope of purchasing a few acres.

Our Story

Our family is a bit unorthodox. Akos ran a nearly 6-figure e-commerce business that landed her on CBC’s Dragon’s Den, and Bernard serves in the Canadian Armed Forces. Neither of us has an agricultural background.

COVID-19 revealed cracks in our global and centralized supply chains that our family could no longer ignore. We saw first-hand how weak and unsustainable the systems we relied on were, and worse yet, these systems had left many of us completely disconnected from the origins of the products we consume.

In the face of all this, we felt a call back to nature; back to living the way our ancestors before us had lived.

re.Planted Farm is our attempt to forge a life lived on our own terms, despite lacking access to farmland.

And as a military family, we’ve found ourselves having to uproot from one community and ‘re-plant’ into another. Drawing from this experience is how our name was conceived: re.Planted.

By reading our story, following us from afar, or supporting the farm, you’re etching priceless moments into our story and helping us along this journey. So thank you. We sincerely hope to become a part of your story too.

Our Method

re.Planted Urban Farm is a network of underutilized lawns, turned no-till market gardens, all located within the town of Deep River, Ontario. We’re cultivating less than 2200 sq ft of land, so our farming practices have to be radical.

That means we plant intensively and use regenerative growing methods like minimizing soil disturbance, by refraining from tillage, and focusing on feeding soil life with locally-derived resources, all in an effort to grow nutrionally-dense food and chemical-free flowers.

Our philosophy revolves around the premise that nature, in her simple glory, is already efficient and beautiful. At re.Planted, we’re simply stewards looking to highlight her in our growing practices and floral designs.

When it comes to our floral arrangements, we’re drawn by seasonal textures, colours and varieties. Flowers are living poetry and our goal is to arrange them as if they were still growing in our fields. We dislike anything stuffy and fussy and strive to use only the blooms we’ve grown. We will never use imported flowers and stay far away from floral foam. We cherish all things handcrafted and are obsessed by the ‘little things’.
